There are several ways in which a person can receive a free credit report in the U.S. One of the ways is by simply going to any of the three consumer reporting companies that offer a free credit report and requesting your free credit score and report by simply filling out their form at their website.
Another way would be through the FTC website where you may print a form, fill it out providing your name, address, date of birth and Social Security number, place it in an envelope and send the form to Annual Credit Report Request Service, P.O. Box 105281, Atlanta, GA 30348-5281 and wait for the reporting company’s response.
Other situations where individuals are granted free credit reports are in instances where they apply for and are denied credit, insurance or even employment. In this case, the person whose application had been denied will be provided a notice of the inquiry and action in regards to the inquiry and for 60 days are entitled to a free credit report from the consumer reporting company which will be revealed in the notice.
Also, if an individual is currently unemployed and plans to search for a job in the next 60 days or are currently on welfare, then they would be eligible to receive a free credit report.
