How do I fix my credit report if I have negative items that I already paid?
If you have negative items on your credit report and they have been paid in full, contact all 3 credit bureaus immediately about the negative items. Let them know that those negative items that are still on your credit report have been paid in full.
Be sure to include which credit card accounts and other information is also included. The credit bureaus will most likely do an investigation into whether its been paid already or not.
We don’t recommend that you contact the organization that reported the negative items to the credit bureaus. If you don't know, the three credit bureaus are Equifax, TransUnion, and Experian. It probably won't be enough to call to dispute the information, but you can call and ask for their mailing address to mail a written statement. The written statement will have to be sent to all three credit bureaus.
Also, include with your dispute letter a copy of your driver's license, a copy of your social security card, and proof of your current residency such as a copy of your current utility bills with your name on it. That will help expedite the credit report investigation.
