Disputing Item on Credit Report After Collection Agency ClosedIf a collection agency is now closed and once had your balance, then you can file a dispute to your credit reporting company about the item on your credit report. What will happen is the credit reporting company will do an investigation regarding your dispute and if the collection agency is closed and they get no response from the collection agency after 30 days, they will most likely remove the item from your credit report altogether. So in the situation where a collection agency has gone out of business, contact the credit reporting companies through a dispute on the item to all of the credit reporting companies with a written letter with your information and photocopies of the documents with the items you want removed from your credit report. |
